How to make a PDF under 500 KB

  1. Add your images

Photos, scans or screenshots, in JPG, PNG or WebP. Several at once is fine.

  2. Put them in order

Drag the thumbnails or use the arrows. Turn any page that lies on its side.

  3. Keep the limit at 500 KB

It is already set. Change it if your form allows more or less.

  4. Create and download

The size shows next to the download button, already under the limit.

What fits in 500 KB

Half a megabyte is roomy. In our tests a single A4 page kept the full 2,000 pixels at high quality and came out at about 400 KB. Five pages kept about 1,400 pixels each, around 130 DPI, and nine pages about 950, around 87 DPI, all easy to read.

Photos fit well too: five ordinary photos kept about 1,200 pixels on their long side, plenty for any phone or laptop screen.

How the tool stays under the limit

Each page is measured first, so a busy photo gets more of the space than a plain page of text. Then every page is saved at the highest quality its share allows, and made smaller only when quality alone cannot get there, because a slightly smaller page at good quality reads better than a large one full of blocks.

Websites count a kilobyte as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes, so the tool keeps the PDF under the limit counted the smaller way. A PDF it makes under 500 KB passes a 200 KB limit either way.

Tips for a sharper PDF

Photograph documents flat, straight on and in good light, and crop away the table around them. Leave out pages the form does not ask for. If a form wants each document as its own file, tick One PDF per image: every PDF then stays under the limit on its own.

Questions

How do I convert JPG to PDF under 500 KB?

Add your images, keep the limit at 500 KB and choose Create PDF. The PDF you download is already under the limit.

Will the text still be readable?

Yes. In our tests, ordinary 10 point print stayed easy to read on nine A4 pages, and sharp on five.

What if the PDF is still over the limit?

With many pages and a small limit, each page gets only a few kilobytes. The tool shrinks the pages until they fit, and tells you if a PDF stays over even at the lowest useful quality. Remove pages, or split them over two PDFs if the form allows.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. Your browser makes the PDF on your device, so the images are never sent to uncrop.si or anyone else. Once the page has loaded, it even works offline.

Can I set a different limit?

Yes. Pick another preset, or type any size in KB or MB.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Open this page in your phone browser, choose the photos from your gallery, and the PDF is saved to your downloads.
