How to convert an image to text

  1. Add your image

Drop it on the page, choose it, or paste it with Ctrl + V.

  2. Choose what you want

Plain text, a Word file, an Excel sheet or a translation.

  3. Press Read

The AI reads the image, usually in a few seconds.

  4. Copy or download

Check the result, edit it if needed, then copy it or download it.

How it works

Your browser makes a smaller copy of the image and removes its location and camera details. When you press Read, that copy goes to the AI service we use, which reads the text and sends it back. We keep neither the image nor the text.

The AI reads whole lines in context, which helps with photos taken at an angle, mixed fonts, tables and handwriting. Always check important details such as names, amounts and dates.

For the most accurate result

Photograph the page flat and straight on, in good light, without shadows or glare, and fill the frame with the text. One page per photo works best. For a long page, crop it into two halves and read each one.

Text, Word, Excel or a translation

Choose Text to copy and paste, Word for a document with paragraphs and lists, Excel to turn tables into a spreadsheet, or Translate to read the text in another language. The pages for image to Word, image to Excel, translating an image, handwriting and screenshots start with the right setting.

Questions

Is this image to text converter free?

Yes. You get 3 free reads a day without signing up, and each image you read counts as one. The count resets at midnight UTC.

Is my image uploaded?

Only when you press Read. Your browser first makes a smaller copy of the image without its location or camera details, then sends it to the AI service we use, which reads it and sends the text back. We keep neither the image nor the text. Every other tool on uncrop.si works on your device and sends nothing.

How accurate is it?

Clear printed text and screenshots come out close to word for word. Handwriting, faded print, glare and very small text are harder, so check names, numbers and dates before you rely on them.

Which languages can it read?

The AI reads text in many languages and scripts. Accuracy is best for clear printed text, so check the result, especially for handwriting.

Why is there a daily limit?

Each read runs a paid AI model, so a daily limit keeps the tool free for everyone. Larger limits are planned.

Can I read ID cards or bank statements?

Read only what you are happy to share with an AI service. For ID cards, passports or bank documents, crop the image to the part you need first.

Which image formats work?

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP, plus HEIC and AVIF where your browser can open them. Large photos are made smaller before sending, which keeps text sharp and saves time.
