How to expand an image.
- Choose a photo, canvas shape and amount of surrounding space.
- Select Gemini or ChatGPT (OpenAI API), an image model, and enter your API key.
- Review the provider and charge notice, generate once, then download.
An imagined extension, an original centre.
AI uncropping generates new content around a photograph. It can continue a landscape, extend a studio backdrop or create room for a different aspect ratio. It imagines a plausible continuation; it cannot recover the real scene that was outside the original crop.
The input preview shows your photo placed inside a larger canvas. OpenAI receives a mask identifying the surrounding area, while Gemini receives the prepared canvas and editing instructions. After the result returns, this tool draws the original prepared centre back onto it to preserve that area. Inspect the joins because the generated surroundings may still need adjustment.
Bring your own key means the selected provider uses your API account and its pricing, access rules and quota. The site makes one request when you click Generate, with no automatic retry. For a free alternative that needs no API key, use Fit without cropping with blur, colour or mirrored borders.

Will AI recover the uncropped original? +
No. It generates new content. The original scene outside a crop is unknown.
Will the centre of my photo change? +
The prepared original centre is composited back onto the result locally. It may be resized to fit the chosen canvas, but AI is not used to replace that centre.
Who pays for generation? +
The API key holder pays their provider where charges apply. uncrop.si does not supply a paid API key.
