How to convert handwriting to text
Add a photo of the handwriting
Drop it on the page, choose it, or paste it with Ctrl + V.
Choose what you want
Plain text, a Word file, an Excel sheet or a translation.
Press Read
The AI reads the image, usually in a few seconds.
Copy or download
Check the result, edit it if needed, then copy it or download it.
What it can read
Neat print and joined-up writing usually come out well. Very messy writing, faint pencil or crossed-out words may leave a few [unclear] markers, which you can fix by hand. The text is copied as written, without correcting spelling, so you see exactly what was on the page.
Tips for handwriting
Use a photo with dark ink on light paper, taken straight on in good light. One page per photo works best. To keep the notes as a document, choose Word before you press Read.
How it works
Your browser makes a smaller copy of the image and removes its location and camera details. When you press Read, that copy goes to the AI service we use, which reads the text and sends it back. We keep neither the image nor the text.
The AI reads whole lines in context, which helps with photos taken at an angle, mixed fonts, tables and handwriting. Always check important details such as names, amounts and dates.
Questions
Is handwriting to text free?
Yes. You get 3 free reads a day without signing up, and each image you read counts as one. The count resets at midnight UTC.
Is my image uploaded?
Only when you press Read. Your browser first makes a smaller copy of the image without its location or camera details, then sends it to the AI service we use, which reads it and sends the text back. We keep neither the image nor the text. Every other tool on uncrop.si works on your device and sends nothing.
Does it correct spelling?
No. It copies the writing as it is, so you see exactly what was written. Words it cannot read are marked [unclear].
Can it read cursive?
Often, if the writing is reasonably neat. Check the result and fix any word marked [unclear].
Which languages can it read?
The AI reads text in many languages and scripts. Accuracy is best for clear printed text, so check the result, especially for handwriting.
Why is there a daily limit?
Each read runs a paid AI model, so a daily limit keeps the tool free for everyone. Larger limits are planned.
