PNG and WebP keep transparency.

THREE SMALL STEPS

How to convert image format.

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP file.
  2. Select the output format and quality where available.
  3. Download a new file and keep your original.

Choose the format for the job.

JPG is a practical choice for many photographs, while PNG keeps transparency and sharp flat graphics without lossy compression. WebP supports both compact photographic images and transparency in current browsers. Converting creates a new file; it does not rename the old extension.

A transparent PNG converted to JPG receives a white background because JPG cannot store an alpha channel. Converting a JPG to PNG does not restore detail already lost to JPG compression. If your source contains animation, this tool exports the still image decoded by the browser, not a moving animation.

The image is redrawn onto a canvas before export. File metadata is not copied as a separate metadata package. For formats such as HEIC, GIF or SVG, first create a JPG, PNG or WebP using a compatible app. This converter intentionally accepts only those three supported raster formats.

A FEW USEFUL DETAILS

Before you download.

Can I turn a transparent PNG into a JPG? +

Yes, with white replacing transparent areas. Use WebP if you want a smaller format that can retain transparency.

Is changing the extension the same as converting? +

No. This tool actually encodes the image into the selected format.

Will conversion improve the original quality? +

No. A different format cannot recover detail that is absent from the source.
