A YouTube banner is 2560 x 1440 pixels (16:9), at least 2048 x 1152 and 6 MB or smaller. We place your whole image on that canvas without cropping, show what TV, computer and phone views keep, and save it under the limit.

YouTube uses one banner on every device and crops it to fit each screen. It no longer lists sizes per device, so trust the safe area for anything that must show.
| What | At 2560 x 1440 | At 2048 x 1152 | Where it shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whole banner | 2560 x 1440 | 2048 x 1152 | TV. YouTube recommends 2560 x 1440 "especially for TV". |
| Web view (our measurement) | about 2560 x 413 | about 2048 x 330 | Channel page on computers and phone browsers |
| Safe area for text and logos | about 1544 x 423 | 1235 x 338 | Centered. YouTube's area for text and logos. |
| File size | 6 MB or smaller | 6 MB or smaller | Every upload |
We measured the web view on youtube.com and m.youtube.com on 20 October 2026: the channel page shows the banner in a 6.2:1 band across the middle (style padding-top 16.12%), drawn from an image cut to the middle 29.4% of its height. That is our measurement, not a YouTube figure, and layouts change, so leave a small margin; Fit the safe area does that for you. The safe area at 2560 x 1440 is YouTube's figure scaled by 1.25.

It is 16:9 but under the 2048 x 1152 minimum, so it has to be enlarged 2.5 times. That adds pixels, not detail. If you designed it in Canva or another editor, export it again at 2560 x 1440. Cropped part of it in Canva along the way? Our Canva guide shows how to undo a crop.
Move it inside the safe area, or choose Fit the safe area to place the whole design there.
Save as JPG. We lower the quality only as far as needed to get under 6 MB.
Start from the largest original you have. The tool tells you when it enlarges your image. For sharp text, add it at full size with add text to an image.
YouTube asks for no added shadows, borders or frames. Fill the whole canvas with Blur, Smart fill or one color instead of a thin outline.
2560 x 1440 pixels, a 16:9 image, is the size YouTube recommends, especially for TV. Uploads must be at least 2048 x 1152 and 6 MB or smaller. Every device uses the same file but crops it differently, so keep text and logos in the centered safe area: 1235 x 338 at the minimum size, about 1544 x 423 on a 2560 x 1440 banner.
Open your image in the tool above. It is placed whole on a 2560 x 1440 canvas, and the guides show the TV view, the band computers and phone browsers show, and the safe area. For a logo or a design with text, choose Fit the safe area so every device shows all of it, fill the rest with Blur, Color or Smart fill, and download.
Yes, but it has to be enlarged. 1024 x 576 has the right 16:9 shape but is below YouTube's 2048 x 1152 minimum, so we scale it 2.5 times to 2560 x 1440, or 2 times to 2048 x 1152. Enlarging adds pixels, not detail, so small text can look soft. Exporting the design again at 2560 x 1440 gives a sharper banner.
YouTube shows one banner on TV, computers and phones, and crops it to fit each screen. On computers and phone browsers we measured a band across the middle, about 2560 x 413 of a 2560 x 1440 banner, so anything above or below it shows only on TV. Keep text and logos inside the safe area outline.
YouTube Help gives 1235 x 338 pixels, centered, at the minimum size of 2048 x 1152. Scaled to 2560 x 1440 that is about 1544 x 423, which other sites round to 1546 x 423. The outline in the tool uses YouTube's figure.
6 MB or smaller, according to YouTube Help. It names no file types for banners, so we save JPG or PNG, two types it accepts for profile pictures. JPG keeps photos small. PNG suits flat logos and text, but a photo banner as PNG can pass 6 MB; if it does, the tool offers a JPG instead. See JPG, PNG or WebP?
In the YouTube app, tap your profile picture, open your channel, tap Edit, tap the banner image, choose the photo you saved and tap Save, as YouTube Help describes. On a computer, use YouTube Studio: Customization, then Profile, then Change under Banner image.
No. Placing, Blur, Color, Mirror, Stretch, Smart fill and Texture fill all run in your browser, and the line under the Download button shows what this page sent. Smart fill downloads its model once, about 62 MB, and keeps it on your device. Your banner goes to YouTube only when you upload it yourself.
