Free online HEIC to JPG, nothing uploaded

HEIC to JPG converter, right in your browser

Turn the HEIC photos an iPhone, iPad, Android phone or camera makes into ordinary JPGs, ready for a Windows PC, an email, a chat or an upload form. Add one photo or a folder of up to 50, then save each JPG or all of them in one zip.

Save as

Location, camera details and all other metadata are left out of the new files.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Add the HEIC files

Tap Choose HEIC photos and pick them on your phone, or drag them onto the box from a folder on a computer. Converting starts right away, one photo after another.

  2. Pick a JPG quality

90 is the default and keeps photos looking like the original. Choose 100 for the most detail, or 70 when the file has to be small.

  3. Keep the date, if you like

Tick Keep the date taken so photo apps still sort the JPGs by when you shot them. The location and the camera model never come along.

  4. Save the JPGs

Use the Download button next to each photo, or Download all for one zip. Changed a setting afterwards? Press Convert again.

Need a lossless copy, a JPG under a KB limit, a PDF, or the location removed from a photo you keep? Try HEIC to PNG converter, Compress image to KB, JPG to PDF or Remove EXIF data and location.

Why HEIC photos will not open on Windows, Android or websites

HEIC is the photo format Apple devices use when the camera is set to High Efficiency. iPhone 7 and later models capture photos as HEIF, which Apple says compresses better than JPEG at the same visual quality (Apple). The picture inside is compressed with HEVC, a codec plenty of other software still cannot read.

Web browsers are the biggest gap. Safari added HEIC in version 17 (WebKit), while Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Samsung Internet still cannot show it, and caniuse puts support at about 17% of browsers in use (caniuse). On a Windows PC, the Photos app asks for an extension: Microsoft's fix is HEIF Image Extensions, which is free, plus HEVC Video Extensions at $0.99, both from the Microsoft Store and both needed even for photos alone (Microsoft). Android can decode HEIF from version 9, but that support is optional for each device (Android Developers).

WhereOpens HEICHow this page converts it
Safari 17 or later on iPhone, iPad and MacYesWith Safari's own decoder, nothing extra to download
Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Samsung InternetNoWith the HEIC decoder it downloads once
The Photos app on WindowsOnly with two Microsoft Store extensionsIn Chrome or Edge, with nothing to install
Android 9 or later, in appsDepends on the phoneIn the phone's browser, with the HEIC decoder

Apple devices sometimes convert for you. Shared by AirDrop, Messages or email with a device that cannot read HEIF, a photo might go out as a JPEG, and photos copied to a PC over a USB cable might be converted too, unless Keep Originals is chosen under Settings, Apps, Photos (Apple). If a HEIC reached you as a WhatsApp document, a cloud download or an email attachment and will not open, save the file and drop it here.

Renaming photo.heic to photo.jpg does not help. The data inside is still HEIC, and any program that checks the content refuses it. Converting writes real JPG data into a new file.

Free, online, and nothing is uploaded

This converter is a web page, but the converting happens on your own phone or computer. There is no sign-up, no watermark on the JPGs and no daily cap: a batch holds up to 50 photos, and you can run as many batches as you like. Since nothing is uploaded there is no upload size limit either. The real ceiling is your device's memory, and pictures over 200 megapixels are turned away.

In Safari 17 or later, the page lets Safari open the HEIC itself. Other browsers download a HEIC decoder from uncrop.si the first time you convert: libheif with the libde265 HEVC decoder, compiled to WebAssembly, a 1.46 MB file your browser then keeps in its cache. Each photo is decoded in a background worker, drawn on a canvas and saved as a new JPG at the quality you picked. Under the results, a line counts what the page has sent since you added your photos, so you can check for yourself that they stayed put.

Bulk conversion and large HEIC files

We timed the page in Chrome on a Windows laptop. A batch of 50 copies of our 12-megapixel test HEIC (4,032 x 3,024 pixels, 1.8 MB each, 88.1 MB in all) became 50 JPGs at quality 90 in 72 seconds, about 1.4 seconds a photo, and the 106.3 MB zip was ready in under a second. Our largest test file, a 24-megapixel HEIC (5,712 x 4,284) of 3.3 MB, became a 3.7 MB JPG in 3.1 to 3.4 seconds.

Photos are converted one after another, and each JPG gets its Download button as soon as it is done, so you can save the first ones while the rest finish. Stop ends the batch and keeps the JPGs already made. A phone does the same work more slowly, and its browser may not manage a very large picture at full size. Then the page saves the largest size that browser allows and shows the new pixel size next to the file.

JPG quality and file size, for sharing and upload forms

We converted a 1,016 x 1,272 test photo of a mountain lake, saved as a 344 KB HEIC, at four JPG quality settings in Chrome. The JPG came out smaller than the HEIC only at 80 and below. At the default of 90 it was a little bigger, and at 100 about three times the size.

JPG qualityJPG sizeNext to the 344 KB HEIC
1001.0 MBAbout 3 times bigger
90 (the default)367 KBAbout the same
80252 KBAbout a quarter smaller
70197 KBOver 40% smaller

HEVC simply packs photos more tightly than JPG does, so expect a JPG at 90 to be about the size of the HEIC or a little more. That is plenty for posting: Instagram, for one, sizes photos down to a width of 1,080 pixels (Instagram Help), while a 12-megapixel phone photo is 4,032 pixels wide.

Upload forms are stricter. When one wants a JPG under 100 KB or 200 KB, convert here first, then put the JPG through compress image to KB, which finds the highest quality that fits the number you type. To send the photos as one PDF, add the JPGs to JPG to PDF.

HEIC to JPG on iPhone, Mac, Windows and Android

This page works the same way on all four. Each system also has a built-in route, which suits a photo or two:

DeviceBuilt-in wayWith this page
iPhone or iPadIn the Preview app, open the photo, tap Export and choose JPEG; the guide covers iOS 26 and later (Apple)Open it in Safari; the JPGs and the zip go to Downloads in the Files app
MacIn Finder, Control-click the photo, choose Quick Actions, then More, then Convert Image (Apple)Any browser; Safari needs no decoder download
Windows 10 or 11The Photos app, once the HEIF and HEVC extensions are installed (Microsoft)Chrome or Edge, with nothing to install
AndroidDepends on the phone: HEIF decoding is an optional feature (Android Developers)Chrome on the phone

To stop new photos coming out as HEIC on an iPhone, change the camera format, as the questions below explain. Photos already taken stay HEIC, which is where this page comes in.

Location, dates and other details in phone photos

A photo straight from a phone can say a lot about you in its Exif and XMP data: the GPS position where it was taken, the phone model and lens, the time, and its edit history. Because each JPG here is a new file made only from the pixels, none of that comes along. Our test HEIC carried a GPS position, an iPhone model name and a caption, and the JPGs had none of them.

Looking for a way to convert without losing metadata? One detail is kept on request, and it is the one most people want: tick Keep the date taken and the JPG gets a small Exif block with that date and its time zone offset, so albums still place it on the right day. Everything else stays behind on purpose.

Prefer to keep the HEIC and drop only the location? Remove EXIF data cleans HEIC files in place, without converting them, and the image metadata viewer shows what any photo holds before you share it.

Questions

Is this HEIC to JPG converter really free, with no watermark?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no daily limit. A batch takes up to 50 photos, and when it finishes you can start another as often as you like.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The only download is the decoder itself, from uncrop.si, and only in browsers that cannot open HEIC on their own. Your photos are read and converted inside the browser tab, and the line under the results shows what the page sent while you used it.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows 10 or 11?

Open this page in Chrome or Edge, choose the HEIC files in File Explorer, or drag a selection of them onto the box. Press Download all for one zip, then right-click it and choose Extract All. Nothing needs installing, unlike the Photos app, which wants two Microsoft Store extensions before it opens HEIC (Microsoft).

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on an iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, tap Choose HEIC photos and pick your photos. Safari 17 and later open HEIC by themselves, so the page needs no extra download. Your JPGs or the zip land in the Downloads folder of the Files app (Apple).

Can I stop my iPhone from saving photos as HEIC?

Yes. Go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible, and new photos are saved as JPEG; High Efficiency switches back to HEIF (Apple). The setting changes only the photos you take from then on.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

A little, because JPG compression is lossy and the picture gets compressed a second time. At the default of 90 the difference is hard to spot in normal photos. Choose 100 if you will edit and save the JPG again, or use HEIC to PNG for a copy with no further loss.

Why is the JPG bigger than the HEIC?

HEIC compresses with HEVC, which is more efficient than JPG compression. Our 344 KB test HEIC became a 367 KB JPG at quality 90 and a 1.0 MB JPG at 100. Pick 80 or 70 when the JPG needs to be smaller than the HEIC.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG without losing the metadata?

Only the date taken comes along, and only when you tick Keep the date taken. The GPS location, camera model and the rest are left out by design. Keep the original HEIC if you need that full record.

How do I turn a HEIC into a JPG under 100 KB?

Convert it here first, then open the JPG in compress image to 100 KB. It fits the photo under the limit at the best quality it can, and shrinks the pixel size when a full-size photo would need a very low quality to fit.

Can it handle large HEIC files or hundreds of photos?

Yes. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no file size cap; pictures up to 200 megapixels are accepted. For hundreds of photos, run several batches of 50. In our test, 50 photos of 12 megapixels took 72 seconds in Chrome.

Does it work with HEIF files from Android phones and cameras?

Yes, when the picture inside is HEVC, as it is in HEIC files, most .heif files and the .HIF files cameras save. We tested 10-bit files with the 4:2:2 color cameras use, and HDR files. A file that turns out to be a JPG or an AVIF with the wrong name is converted too, and the result says so.

What happens to the HDR in an iPhone photo?

Apple stores an HDR gain map with the photo, a small brightness map that is applied to the picture for HDR screens (Apple Developer). A JPG has no place for it, so you get the standard picture without the extra brightness, and the result tells you when a photo had one.
