JPG to PDF under 1 MB

A megabyte holds a long document or a good set of photos. In our test, twenty A4 pages stayed easy to read, and up to five kept every pixel the tool works with.

How to make a PDF under 1 MB

  1. Collect every page

Scans, phone photos or screenshots. A long document can go in all at once, up to 200 images.

  2. Put them in reading order

Sort by name for numbered files, then drag anything that is still in the wrong place.

  3. Leave 1 MB, or change it

The 1 MB preset is on. Pick 2 MB if the form allows more, or type any other size.

  4. Create, skim, download

Long PDFs take a little while. Open the result and skim every page before you save it.

How many pages fit in 1 MB

Our test pages were 12 megapixel images built to look like phone photos of printed A4 sheets, with 10 point text. On 13 October 2026 we turned sets of 1 to 40 of them into PDFs here, each under 1 MB, and read every PDF on a laptop screen.

Every page is decoded, weighed for detail and saved again, so a long PDF takes a little while: 20 pages took about 10 seconds on our test computer, and a phone can take longer. All of that happens on your device, so a slow connection makes no difference.

Why one page rarely fills a megabyte

Under a size limit, the tool works with at most 2,000 pixels on a page’s long side, about 180 DPI on A4 and sharp at any normal zoom. One of our page photos at that size and high quality came to 407 KB, and five pages still kept the full 2,000 pixels each. So a short document under 1 MB loses almost nothing.

Only images packed with fine detail come close on their own. In a second test on 15 October 2026, a grainier page photo came to 757 KB, and a 12 megapixel image of pure grain, the hardest kind to compress, needed 971 KB, still under the limit.

If you need one photo at the camera’s full resolution, use Best quality on the JPG to PDF page instead: the photo goes in untouched and the PDF ends up about as big as the photo. Our 12 megapixel test images were about 1.1 MB each, just over this limit.

Photo sets in 1 MB

Photos hold more fine detail than pages of print, so they use the space faster. We tried sets made from six public domain photos (a coast, two dogs, a lake, a room and a snowy street, each 1,920 pixels wide), repeating them for the larger sets.

128.2 MB988 KBabout 1,060 to 1,160 pixels

For a bigger album, spread the photos over several PDFs or raise the limit. For prints, use Best quality, where every photo keeps all of its pixels.

When 1 MB covers every file

Some portals set one limit for all the uploads in an application. The Embassy of India in Suriname’s guide to its consular applicant portal, for example, asks for documents in PDF and allows no more than 1 MB for all of them together (applicant portal guide).

In that case, split the megabyte before you start. For three documents, make each PDF with a limit of about 300 KB, which held up to seven readable pages in our 300 KB test, and keep some room back if a photo and signature count towards the total.

Questions

How many pages is a 1 MB PDF?

It depends on what is on the pages. Made from photos of printed pages, about 20 A4 pages fit with the print easy to read in our test, and 10 stay sharp. A PDF saved from a word processor keeps its text as text, so 1 MB holds far more pages of that kind.

How many MB is one PDF page?

For a page made from a photo, about as much as the photo when it goes in untouched: roughly 1.1 MB for our 12 megapixel test images. With Smaller file a page came to about 200 KB, and under a size limit each page gets its share of the limit.

How do I keep the best quality under 1 MB?

Use only the pages the form needs: up to five A4 pages kept the full 2,000 pixels in our test. Crop the desk or table out of each photo first, so the pixels go to the paper.

Is 1 MB 1,000 KB or 1,024 KB?

Both are in use. The tool counts 1,000 KB to the megabyte and stays under 1,000,000 bytes, so the PDF passes whichever way a website counts. Windows counts in 1,024s, so it may show the same file as about 976 KB or 0.95 MB.

Can I make a PDF under 2 MB or 5 MB?

Yes. 2 MB is a preset, and you can type any size, such as 5, with MB as the unit. A bigger limit lets each page keep more detail, up to the 2,000 pixels the tool works with.

Why does a long PDF take a while?

Each page is decoded, weighed for detail and saved again at the best quality its share allows, all on your device. In our test on a computer, 20 pages took about 10 seconds. A phone can take longer.

Can I compress an existing PDF to 1 MB here?

No. This page builds a new PDF from images. If you still have the photos or scans the PDF was made from, add those here instead.

Are my pages uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the images and writes the PDF on your device, so the pages never reach uncrop.si and nothing is kept on any server.
