Make a photo between 20 KB and 50 KB
Many application forms set a range, not just a limit. Both numbers are filled in here, and the tool keeps the file inside them, raising the quality when a photo would come out too small.
- Above 20 KB, below 50 KB
- Exact pixels, cm and DPI
- Check a file against the range
Centimetres and inches use the DPI below, or 200 DPI if none is set, and that DPI is written into the JPG so it prints at this size.

How to resize image 20 KB to 50 KB
Choose the photo
Or the scan of a thumb impression or signature. Up to 30 files.
Check that 20 to 50 KB is set
It is filled in already: 20 in Min, 50 in Max.
Enter the pixel size if given
Tap 200 x 230 for a photo, the size MSTC and Punjab & Sind Bank prefer, or 240 x 240 for the bank’s thumb impression.
Download and check
Drop the saved file into Check my file to see it pass the minimum and the maximum.
Who asks for 20 to 50 KB
This range is common on Indian recruitment forms. Examples from official pages we checked:
- MSTC (recruitment): photo 20 to 50 KB, 200 x 230 pixels preferred.
- Punjab & Sind Bank (recruitment, 2024): photo 20 to 50 KB at 200 x 230 pixels, and a left thumb impression 20 to 50 KB at 240 x 240 pixels in 200 DPI.
- SSC CHSL 2022 notice: photo 20 to 50 KB, about 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
- Arunachal Pradesh PSC (one time registration): signature 20 to 50 KB.
Check the notice for your own application, because rules change between years.
The minimum is the hard part
Getting under 50 KB is easy. Getting over 20 KB at a small pixel size is not. We fitted two test photos into the range:
| Size | Portrait, soft background | Busy street photo |
|---|---|---|
| 200 x 230 | 20.6 KB at quality 98 | 27.7 KB at quality 95 |
| 276 x 354 | 26.4 KB at quality 95 | 49.1 KB at quality 93 |
| Keep or shrink (tool picks) | 48.9 KB at 785 x 1047 | 49.6 KB at 584 x 389 |
At 200 x 230 the portrait cleared 20 KB only by going to quality 98. A photo against a flat white wall would have fallen short. When that happens the tool says so instead of padding the file. MSTC and the bank call 200 x 230 "preferred", so a slightly larger size such as 276 x 354 (3.5 x 4.5 cm at 200 DPI) is the honest fix.
Signatures in a 20 KB minimum
A signature is mostly blank paper, so a 20 KB minimum is a stretch at small sizes. At 315 x 157 pixels (4 x 2 cm at 200 DPI) our test signature needed quality 99 to clear 20 KB, at 20.5 KB, and only with its paper texture kept; at 400 x 175 it reached 22.3 KB at quality 98. A cleaner or smaller signature can fall short, so give it more pixels if the form allows. With Whiten the paper on, the tool keeps the paper texture by itself when pure white would fall short, and says so: the texture is real detail that adds bytes.

Questions
What pixel size is a 20 KB to 50 KB photo?
Forms that set this range often prefer 200 x 230 pixels. In our tests anything from 200 x 230 up to about 400 x 500 landed in the range, depending on how busy the photo is.
How do I resize a signature to 20 KB to 50 KB?
Choose the signature, keep the range and give it as many pixels as the form allows. Our test signature at 315 x 157 needed quality 99 and its paper texture to clear 20 KB (20.5 KB), and at 400 x 175 it reached 22.3 KB. A smaller or cleaner signature can fall short, and the tool then says so instead of padding the file.
Can I get a PDF of 20 KB to 50 KB?
This page makes JPG files. If the form wants a PDF, size the photo here first and then make the PDF with JPG to PDF.
Why does my photo stay under 20 KB?
It has too few pixels or too little detail for 20 KB. The tool raises the quality first; at a fixed pixel size it cannot go further. Choose a larger size if the form allows it.
Will it pass if the site counts 1,024 bytes per KB?
Yes. The file is kept above 20,480 bytes and under 50,000, which is inside the range under both ways of counting.
Can I do several photos at once?
Yes, up to 30. Each is fitted into the range on its own, and Download all saves a zip.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, on your device.
