Three steps

How to make a Diwali photo frame with your name

  1. Choose a family photo, or a photo of your diyas or rangoli.
  2. Pick a greeting, then type your name or your family's name in the From line.
  3. Choose maroon, purple or midnight blue, and download it to send.

Lamps along the bottom, flowers across the top

The Diwali frame is a dark festive card. A toran of marigold swags and green leaves hangs across the top edge, the way one hangs over a doorway for the festival, and three clay diyas glow along the bottom. Gold sparkles fill the background, and a fine gold line runs around the photo.

There are two text lines: the greeting in large gold letters, and a From line under it. Leave the From line empty if the photo already says who it is from. The background comes in Maroon and gold, Royal purple or Midnight blue.

Hindi greetings are drawn upright rather than slanted, which suits Devanagari, with the fonts on your device: Nirmala UI on Windows, Kohinoor Devanagari on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and Noto Sans Devanagari on Android.

Diwali 2026: the five days

Diwali runs over five days, each with its own customs. A panchang sets each day by the lunar date at local sunrise, so a day can fall on a different date in India and abroad. These dates are from Drik Panchang for New Delhi, London and New York, and we update this table every October.

In India this year, Monday 9 November is still Amavasya, the new moon day, so Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj come a day later there than in the UK and the US. Check a panchang for your own city before you plan a puja.

Greetings in English and Hindi

Pick a greeting from the list or type your own. Here is what each one says.

GreetingMeaning or use
Happy DiwaliThe everyday English greeting, understood everywhere
Happy DeepavaliDeepavali is the longer name of the festival, common in South India
शुभ दीपावली (Shubh Deepavali)Auspicious Deepavali, the classic Hindi greeting
दीपावली की शुभकामनाएँBest wishes for Deepavali
Shubh DeepavaliThe Hindi greeting in English letters, for family who do not read Devanagari

Photos that look good in a dark frame

The card is deep and dark, so a bright photo stands out best. Evening photos lit by diyas are often dim: open Adjust and raise Brightness by 10 to 20 percent before you add the frame, so faces do not sink into the background.

A rangoli photographed from straight above, a family photo in festive clothes, or a close shot of a lit diya all suit the frame. For a group photo, crop out empty floor and ceiling so the people fill the window.

Sending greetings to family abroad

Lakshmi Puja falls on the same date in New Delhi, London and New York this year, but the evening arrives at very different hours. At 6 pm in New Delhi on Sunday 8 November it is 12:30 pm in London and 7:30 am in New York, because the UK and the US have both set their clocks back for winter by then.

So a greeting sent as the lamps are lit in India reaches London at lunchtime and the US East Coast before breakfast. Think about when your relatives will see it, and send it at a time that suits them.

For shops, offices and housing societies

Put the business or society name in the From line, such as From all of us at Mehta Sweets or Green Park Residents Association. For a shop counter or a notice board, switch off Keep aspect ratio and set 2480 by 3508 pixels, which prints on A4 at 300 pixels per inch.

A real photo of the team, the shop front or the decorated entrance feels more personal than a stock picture, and you can make a separate card for each branch or building in a minute.

From lines for family, friends and work

The From line is set in spaced capitals under the greeting. Short lines look best, and past about 35 characters the letters get smaller to fit. The frame shows no year, so the same card works again next Diwali.

  • From the Sharma family
  • With love, Priya and Arjun
  • Wishing you light and joy, the Patels
  • From all of us at Mehta Sweets
  • Diwali 2026, the Iyer family

Questions

How do I make a Diwali photo frame with my name?

Choose your photo, then type your name or your family's name in the From line under Frame. Pick a greeting, choose the colors and download. The preview updates as you type.

When is Diwali in 2026?

Lakshmi Puja, the main night of Diwali, is on Sunday 8 November 2026 in India, the UK and the US. Dhanteras is on Friday 6 November. Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj fall on 10 and 11 November in India, and a day earlier in the UK and the US.

Can I write Happy Diwali in Hindi?

Yes. Pick शुभ दीपावली or दीपावली की शुभकामनाएँ from the greeting list. The Hindi greeting is drawn upright with your device's own Devanagari font.

Is it free, with no watermark?

Yes. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no app to install. The frame is drawn in your browser and your photo stays on your device.

Can I add the year to the frame?

The Diwali frame has a greeting and a From line only. To show a year, put it in the From line, such as Diwali 2026, the Sharma family, or add a caption with the Text tool.

Can I send it on WhatsApp?

Yes. Download the image, then attach it to a chat or a status from your gallery. For a status, crop the photo to Story 9:16 first so the card fills the screen.

Do you have frames for other festivals?

Yes. The gallery also has Christmas and New Year frames, and the wedding frame has a red and gold version with a marigold toran.
