How to make a birthday photo frame with a name
- Choose the photo of the birthday person.
- Type their name, then pick or write a heading and an age or date line.
- Choose colors, crop to Story 9:16 for a status or story if you like, and download.
How the birthday frame is laid out
The photo sits on a white print border in the middle of a party card. Bunting runs along the top edge, confetti is scattered down the sides, and three lines of text sit below the photo: a script heading, the name in spaced capitals, and a small line for the age or the date. The confetti stays clear of the words.
There are four color sets. Bright uses red, yellow, teal, blue and pink and suits a kids' party. Blush and gold and Sage and gold are softer, and Black and gold is the dressy one for a 30th, 40th or 50th. Switching colors keeps your words.
The name you type stays when you try another design or open another photo, so you can compare the birthday card with the instant card or the floral frame without typing it again. Long names and headings get smaller to fit. Hindi works too: pick जन्मदिन की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएँ from the heading list, or type your own.
Headings and wishes for mom, dad, sister, husband, wife and friends
The heading list has a ready line for each of these. The small third line is yours for a short wish instead of the age. Keep it under about 30 characters so it stays readable on a phone.

First birthdays, kids and milestone ages
Type any age into the third line. Most numbers take th, but numbers ending in 1, 2 and 3 take st, nd and rd, as in 21st, 32nd and 43rd. The exceptions are 11th, 12th and 13th.
For a baby's monthly photos, such as 3 months or 6 months, the Baby frame in the Occasions group has those headings.

Sizes for WhatsApp status, Instagram stories and posts
The birthday card takes its shape from your photo, and it is never narrower than 4:5 unless the photo itself is narrower. So the crop you choose first decides where the card fits best.
Instagram keeps feed photos between 1.91:1 and 3:4 and shows them 1,080 pixels wide, so a 4:5 card at 1080 by 1350 posts without cropping. A status or a story fills the whole phone screen, so a 9:16 card at 1080 by 1920 leaves no empty bands. With Keep aspect ratio on, type 1080 into Output width and the height follows, within a pixel of these sizes.

Picking the birthday photo
A photo where the face is large and well lit reads best on a small phone screen. Crop a group shot so the birthday person fills most of the window, and leave a little room above the head, since the bunting hangs just over the photo.
Old photos make fun milestone cards: a childhood picture with Turning 50 today underneath is a classic. For a printed photo, take a straight-on shot of it without flash, then crop away the edges of the print.
If the photo is dark, raise Brightness in Adjust before you choose colors. Evening party shots can look heavy on the Black and gold card, so try Blush and gold or Bright for those.
Dates that read right for family abroad
Dates are written in a different order around the world. In the United States the month comes first, as in October 14 or 10/14. In India and the UK the day comes first, as in 14 October or 14/10. Writing the month as a word avoids any mix-up for relatives in another country.
Running late? Happy Belated Birthday works as a heading. Type it into the heading box, and keep the age line as it is.

How do I make a Happy Birthday photo frame with a name?
Choose the photo, then type the name into the Name box under Frame. The heading and the age line have suggestions, or you can write your own. The preview updates as you type, and Download image saves the finished card.
Is it free, without a watermark?
Yes. There is no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on how many birthday frames you make. The card is drawn on your device and the photo is never uploaded.
Can I make a 1st birthday frame?
Yes. Pick Happy 1st Birthday as the heading and 1 year old as the age line, then choose Blush and gold or Sage and gold for a soft look. For month-by-month photos before the first birthday, the Baby frame has headings from 1 Month to 1 Year.
What size is a birthday WhatsApp status?
A status fills the phone screen, so make it 9:16. Crop the photo to Story 9:16 and add the frame, then untick Keep aspect ratio and set the output to 1080 by 1920 pixels.
Can I write Happy Birthday in Hindi or another language?
Yes. जन्मदिन की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएँ is in the heading list, and you can type in any language your keyboard supports. The words use your device's fonts, so look at the preview before you send it.
Can I put two photos in one birthday frame?
Not yet. The frame holds one photo. Make a collage with your phone's photo app first, then open that single image here.
Can I print it as a birthday card?
Yes. Untick Keep aspect ratio and type the card size in pixels, such as 1200 by 1800 for a 4 by 6 inch print at 300 pixels per inch. The card grows to that size and the photo keeps its shape.
Why is the name in capital letters?
The name line and the age line are set in spaced capitals, so Maya shows as MAYA. The heading keeps the letters exactly as you type them.
