10 MB video compressor
Compress a video to 10 MB
Drop a video and get an MP4 of 10 MB or less, measured before you download it, free and without a watermark. It suits a bug report on GitHub, a work email or any form that stops at 10 MB. Your own browser does the encoding, so the video is never sent anywhere.
- Starts at 10 MB
- Measured to fit before you save
- Encoded on your own device
Compress only part of the video
Type a time like 1:05.5 or 65.5, drag the handles, or play the video and use the current position.
Keep this tab open until it finishes.
How to compress a video to 10 MB
Choose the video
Pick it from your files or gallery, or drop it on the box. Its length and picture size show up straight away.
Leave it at 10 MB
The size box already says 10. If the place you are sending it to allows less, tap 5 or 8, or type the exact number it states.
See what fits
The panel names the picture size and bitrate that 10 MB allows for this length. If the video already fits, it tells you so instead.
Compress, then save
Press Compress the video. The finished MP4 is weighed, made again a little lower if it went over 10 MB, and then Download appears.

Where you meet a 10 MB limit
GitHub accepts videos of up to 10 MB in issues, pull requests and comments when the repository belongs to a user or organization on a free plan, and up to 100 MB on a paid plan. It takes MP4, MOV and WebM files and recommends H.264, because which video codecs play depends on the browser (GitHub Docs). This tool always writes H.264 in an MP4.
In classic Outlook for Windows with a Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox, the default ceiling is 10 MB for all the attachments on a message together. It comes from the Maximum send size an Exchange administrator sets, so your workplace may allow more or less (Microsoft Learn).
Discord's free upload limit was 10 MB until August 2026, when it rose to 20 MB (Discord Support). Plenty of older guides still say 10. A 10 MB clip uploads either way, and the Discord page starts at the newer 20 MB.
| Where | Video limit | What it counts |
|---|---|---|
| GitHub, repository on a free plan | 10 MB | Each video you attach |
| GitHub, repository on a paid plan | 100 MB | Each video you attach |
| Classic Outlook, Exchange mailbox | 10 MB by default | Every attachment on the message, added up |
| Discord without Nitro | 20 MB since August 2026 (10 MB before) | Each file, checked before Discord compresses it |
Microsoft writes its 10 MB as 10,240 KB, and this tool counts 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes, the smaller of the two ways to count. So a file made here for 10 MB stays under a 10 MB limit however the other side counts it.
What 10 MB holds at each length
At 10 MB, the length of the video decides almost everything. The whole budget goes to the video you choose, so a short clip keeps full HD and a long one gets a smaller picture. This is what Auto chooses for a typical 1080p phone video at 30 frames per second with AAC sound:
| Length | Picture | Video bitrate | Sound | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15 seconds | 1920 x 1080 | 5.0 Mbps | Copied, 128 kbps | Full HD, clean |
| 30 seconds | 1280 x 720 | 2.5 Mbps | Copied, 128 kbps | HD, clean |
| 1 minute | 960 x 540 | 1.2 Mbps | Copied, 128 kbps | Clean on a phone screen |
| 2 minutes | 640 x 360 | 0.51 Mbps | Copied, 128 kbps | Small, still clean |
| 3 minutes | 428 x 240 | 0.33 Mbps | AAC, 96 kbps | A very small picture |
| 5 minutes | 428 x 240 | 0.16 Mbps | AAC, 96 kbps | Very small, the longest that stays clean |
| 7 minutes | 428 x 240 | 83 kbps | AAC, 96 kbps | Soft and blocky in motion; the panel warns you |
| 10 minutes | Not made with sound | Refused: needs 18.6 MB, or 240p without the sound |
Clean here means Auto's own bar of about 0.05 bits for every pixel of every frame. Detailed or fast scenes show the squeeze sooner than a talking head. A 60 fps clip keeps 60 fps while it fits: at 30 seconds Auto keeps 720p at 60 fps, and at 45 seconds it switches to 30 fps rather than shrink the picture. Removing the sound hands its 128 kbps to the picture, so a 2-minute video comes out at 480p instead of 360p.
Screen recordings for a bug report
A recording that shows a bug only has to be readable. Keep just the steps that reproduce it with Compress only part of the video: 20 seconds of a 1080p screen keeps full HD at 10 MB, while three minutes would shrink it to 240p, too small to read a menu.
If nobody talks over the recording, tick Remove the sound so the picture gets those bits too. A screen recorded at 60 frames per second can usually drop to 30 without losing anything a bug report needs, and Auto does that on its own when it helps.
On a public repository, attached files can be opened without signing in (GitHub Docs). The MP4 from this tool carries no recording date, place or device name, but it shows everything that was on the screen, so look for names, email addresses and keys before you post it.
Tips for fitting under 10 MB
Cut first, then compress. Every second you drop leaves more bits for the rest, and a shorter video is the one change that costs no picture quality at all.
Choose the picture size yourself when detail matters more than smooth motion. For a one-minute clip Auto picks 540p; set Picture size to 720p and the panel tells you that fast motion may look a little soft, which is often fine for slides or a screen.
Aim lower when the limit covers more than the video. An Exchange mailbox counts every attachment on the message, so a 10 MB video next to a 1 MB document needs 9 MB, which you can type straight into the size box.
When 10 MB is too small
Beyond about 5 minutes with sound, a 10 MB picture turns soft and blocky and the panel warns you; at around 10 minutes the tool refuses and names the smallest size that works. You then have three ways out: keep a shorter part, remove the sound, or send the video somewhere with a higher limit.
GitHub takes up to 100 MB for each video on a paid plan, Discord takes 20 MB without Nitro, and a personal Gmail account takes 25 MB of attachments: see compress a video to 25 MB. To send a long video in pieces, split it with the cut video tool, which copies the video without re-encoding it, then bring each piece here.
Questions
How do I compress a video to 10 MB?
Open it on this page, keep 10 in the size box and press Compress the video. When it finishes, the line under the button confirms the file is under 10 MB, and you press Download.
How long can a 10 MB video be?
With a clean picture and the sound at 128 kbps: about 23 seconds at 1080p, 51 seconds at 720p and 1 minute 43 at 480p; at 360p, where Auto lowers the sound to 96 kbps, 2 minutes 53. Up to about 5 minutes still fits at 240p, and longer without sound.
Can I turn a 100 MB video into 10 MB?
Yes, when it is short enough. Only the length matters, not the starting size: a one-minute video becomes 10 MB at 540p whether it began at 30 MB or 300 MB.
Is Discord's limit still 10 MB?
No. Discord raised its free limit from 10 MB to 20 MB in August 2026 and says it is testing other limits as well. A 10 MB clip still uploads, and the Discord page here starts at 20 MB for more room.
Does 10 MB here mean 10,000,000 bytes?
Yes. That is a little less than the 10,485,760 bytes of a binary 10 MB, so the file fits a 10 MB limit counted either way.
Why did my video come out so small on screen?
Because it is long for 10 MB. Auto lowers the picture size until each frame gets enough bits to look clean. Keep a shorter part or remove the sound and it can choose a bigger picture again.
What if my video is already under 10 MB?
The tool tells you it already fits and does not compress it, since that would only lose quality. Type a smaller size if you still want it smaller.
Can I make it 8 MB or 5 MB instead?
Yes. Tap 8 or 5 under the size box, or type any number. With the sound at 128 kbps, 5 MB keeps a clean picture for about 11 seconds at 1080p, 25 seconds at 720p and 51 seconds at 480p.
Can I compress a video to 10 MB on my phone?
Yes, in Chrome on Android or Safari on an iPhone. It works the same way but takes longer than on a laptop, and the MP4 goes to your downloads, ready to attach or upload.
How long does it take?
On our test laptop, one minute of 1080p became a 10 MB file in 6 to 10 seconds in Chrome and Edge, and a 10-minute 360p recording without sound took under 40 seconds. Phones and older computers take longer.
