Discord video compressor
Compress a video for Discord
Discord takes files up to 20 MB without Nitro. Drop your clip here, keep 20 MB or pick your Nitro limit, and get an H.264 MP4 that fits. The clip stays on your device until you post it.
- Starts at Discord's 20 MB
- Handles 60 fps clips
- No upload, no watermark
Compress only part of the video
Type a time like 1:05.5 or 65.5, drag the handles, or play the video and use the current position.
Keep this tab open until it finishes.
How to make a video small enough for Discord
Drop the clip
Choose the video or game clip, or drop it on the box. Long recordings are fine: you can keep only the part you want.
Keep 20 MB or pick your plan
20 MB is the limit without Nitro. Tap 50 MB for Nitro Basic or 1000 MB for Nitro, or type another size.
Cut it to the moment
Open Compress only part of the video and set a start and an end. A shorter clip leaves more bits for every second you keep.
Compress, then post it
Press Compress the video, then Download. In Discord, tap or click the plus sign in the message box, then Upload a File, and pick the MP4.
Sending it by email instead, or need another size? Compress a video for email or Compress a video.
Discord's upload limits
Discord's File Attachments FAQ says the free upload limit is 20 MB as of August 2026, up from 10 MB. Nitro Basic raises it to 50 MB and Nitro to up to 1 GB (Discord Support). Discord also says it is trying out other limits, so some accounts may see a larger one.
Discord now checks the size of the file you pick before it compresses anything, on desktop and on phones alike, so the file has to be under the limit as it is. This tool aims about 3% under the size you set, and counts 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes, a little less than the 1,048,576 bytes some apps count, so a clip made for 20 MB stays under either way.
| Picture | 20 MB (no Nitro) | 50 MB (Nitro Basic) |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p, 60 fps | 0:32 | 1:20 |
| 1080p, 30 fps | 0:47 | 1:59 |
| 720p, 60 fps | 1:10 | 2:55 |
| 720p, 30 fps | 1:42 | 4:15 |
| 480p, 30 fps | 3:27 | 8:38 |
With the sound at 128 kbps. A longer clip still fits: Auto moves to 30 fps or a smaller picture until it does, and tells you what it picked before you start.
60 fps game clips
Game captures and many phone clips run at 60 frames per second. Every frame costs bits, so at 20 MB a 60 fps clip either stays short or loses detail. For clips over 30 fps, Auto tries 30 fps at each picture size before it shrinks the picture: a sharp 30 fps clip usually looks better than a blurry 60 fps one of the same size.
If smooth motion matters more to you than sharpness, set Frame rate to Same as the video and pick a picture size; the panel shows the bitrate before you start. In our tests a 30-second 1080p clip at 60 fps came down to 7.8 MB at 720p and 30 fps in 5 to 7 seconds, and kept at 1080p and 60 fps it fit in 25 MB.
Keep only the moment
A long recording rarely needs to be posted whole. Open Compress only part of the video under the preview, drag the handles or type the times, and the size you set is for that part only. The new clip starts exactly where you chose, because every frame is encoded again.
Halving the length doubles the bits each second gets, which does more for the picture than any other setting. Removing the sound helps a little too, when the clip has nothing worth hearing.
Clips from your phone
Discord lists MOV files, and MP4 files with H.264, HEVC or AV1 video, among what you can upload, so a phone clip is turned away for its size, not its format. Since Discord now checks the size before compressing, it says desktop and iOS uploads should generally be easier than before, while Android users, whose files tend to be larger, may hit the limit more often than they used to (Discord Support).
To fit a phone clip, open this page in the phone's browser (Safari on an iPhone, Chrome on Android), pick the clip from your gallery and keep 20 MB. A minute of 1080p comes out at 720p, and a 4K clip is brought down to a picture size that fits; the panel names it before you start. Then download the MP4 and post it from the Discord app.
Discord's own video settings
In the Discord mobile app, the Chat settings have a Video Uploads choice for the quality of videos you send, with a Data Saver option for quicker uploads. Discord says the size limit is checked before that compression, so a file over the limit is too big even if the app would shrink it (Discord Support).
Compressing here first gives you a file that is under the limit before you open Discord, and you decide the picture size, the frame rate and the part to keep.
Your clip stays yours
The clip is compressed inside this page by your own browser, so the only time it leaves your device is when you post it to Discord yourself. The MP4 you post carries no title, recording place, date or device name from the original file, and no watermark.
This tool always writes H.264 video in an MP4, one of the video formats Discord lists.
Questions
What is Discord's video size limit?
20 MB without Nitro as of August 2026 (it was 10 MB before), 50 MB with Nitro Basic and up to 1 GB with Nitro, according to Discord's File Attachments FAQ. Discord says it is testing other limits, so yours may differ.
Why does Discord say my file is too large?
The file is over your account's limit. Discord checks the size before compressing, so compress it here to 20 MB (or your Nitro limit) and upload the new MP4 instead.
How do I compress a clip for Discord on iPhone or Android?
Open this page in Safari on an iPhone or Chrome on Android, choose the clip from your gallery or files, keep 20 MB and press Compress the video. Download the MP4, then upload it in the Discord app with the plus sign and Upload a File.
How do I keep the most quality at 20 MB?
Some detail is lost whenever a clip is squeezed into 20 MB. Keep only the moment you need, let Auto switch 60 fps to 30, and remove the sound if nobody needs it: each leaves more bits for the picture. Or use 50 MB if you have Nitro Basic.
Can I keep 60 fps?
Yes. Set Frame rate to Same as the video. At 20 MB, 1080p at 60 fps stays clean for about half a minute; for longer clips choose 720p, or let Auto switch to 30 fps.
Which format does Discord want for video?
Discord lists MP4 with H.264, HEVC or AV1 video among the files you can upload. This tool makes an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC or MP3 sound.
Is my clip uploaded or watermarked?
Neither. It is compressed on your device and nothing is stamped on it; the only upload is the one you make to Discord yourself.
