Instagram carousel splitter: seamless panoramas
Turn a wide photo into slides that join perfectly as people swipe. We suggest the slide count that fits your panorama, and when it is a little short, you can extend it on your device instead of cropping it.
- Pixel-exact joins between slides
- 2 to 20 slides at 1080 px
- Can extend short panoramas

How to make a seamless Instagram carousel
Open the panorama
We count how many 4:5 slides match its width and set that number. Change the count or the slide shape whenever you like.
Fill or crop the gap
If the photo is a little short for the slides, choose Extend to fit and texture fill builds the missing strip from your own photo. Or crop the top and bottom instead.
Post them together
Split and save, then pick the slides in number order in one Instagram post, slide 1 first.
Instagram carousel size by number of slides
Every slide in a seamless carousel has the same size, so the panorama you start from is the slide width times the number of slides. Instagram shows posts at up to 1080 px wide and between 1.91:1 and 3:4, so these are the largest sizes it keeps without cropping.
| Slides | 4:5 slides (1080 x 1350) | 3:4 slides (1080 x 1440) | Square slides (1080 x 1080) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 2160 x 1350 px | 2160 x 1440 px | 2160 x 1080 px |
| 3 | 3240 x 1350 px | 3240 x 1440 px | 3240 x 1080 px |
| 4 | 4320 x 1350 px | 4320 x 1440 px | 4320 x 1080 px |
| 5 | 5400 x 1350 px | 5400 x 1440 px | 5400 x 1080 px |
| 6 | 6480 x 1350 px | 6480 x 1440 px | 6480 x 1080 px |
| 7 | 7560 x 1350 px | 7560 x 1440 px | 7560 x 1080 px |
| 8 | 8640 x 1350 px | 8640 x 1440 px | 8640 x 1080 px |
| 9 | 9720 x 1350 px | 9720 x 1440 px | 9720 x 1080 px |
| 10 | 10800 x 1350 px | 10800 x 1440 px | 10800 x 1080 px |
| 20 | 21600 x 1350 px | 21600 x 1440 px | 21600 x 1080 px |
Your photo does not have to be this big, but it should have this shape: a panorama 2.4 times as wide as it is tall fits 3 slides of 4:5 exactly. Smaller photos are enlarged to 1080 px and look softer.
When the panorama is too short or too wide
A phone panorama rarely matches a whole number of slides. The tool picks the closest count, then you choose what happens to the difference.
Crop to fit trims the top and bottom, or the far ends, and you drag the preview to choose what stays. Extend to fit keeps every pixel and adds new area instead. Texture fill copies matching patches from your photo, so sky, sea, sand or a wall carries on past the old edge. Blur and a solid color are quicker, plainer options.
Texture fill is the same on-device fill as our uncrop studio. In our tests, extending a 4000 x 1200 px panorama to five 4:5 slides took between 2 and 9 seconds across several runs in Chromium on a Windows PC, depending on what else the computer was busy with, and cutting and saving the five slides took under a second. It may take longer on a phone.
Why seamless slides have to be exact
Instagram uses one shape for the whole post: the orientation you choose applies to every photo and video in it, and you cannot pick a different one per slide. Slides that are not exactly that shape get cropped again, and the picture jumps at every swipe.
Each file here is cut on whole pixels from one continuous image, so slide 2 starts on the very next pixel after slide 1 ends. Upload them in number order, keep the shape you split for, and leave the framing alone in Instagram's editor.
A carousel holds up to 20 photos and videos, and you cannot add more after you share it, so put the whole panorama in one post.
Posting through a scheduling app that uses Instagram's publishing API? Its reference page still lists JPEG only and shapes from 4:5 to 1.91:1, so save JPG slides at 4:5 for that route, or post from the Instagram app.
Questions
How many photos can an Instagram carousel have?
Up to 20 photos and videos in one post, according to Instagram's help center. That allows a panorama of up to 20 slides.
What size is an Instagram carousel for 3 slides?
For 4:5 slides, start from a 3240 x 1350 px image and cut it into three 1080 x 1350 px slides. For 3:4 slides it is 3240 x 1440 px, and for squares 3240 x 1080 px. The table above covers 2 to 20 slides.
How do I make a seamless carousel on Instagram?
Cut one wide image into equal slides with no gaps, keep every slide exactly the same shape, and post them in order in a single post. This tool does the cutting and numbering, and it can extend the photo when it is too short for the slides.
Can each slide have a different size?
No. Instagram applies the shape you pick to every photo in the carousel. Slides that do not match are cropped to it, which breaks a panorama.
Why does my panorama jump between slides?
Usually the slides were not exactly the post shape, so Instagram cropped each one, or a slide was zoomed in the editor. Split it again here at the shape you post in and leave the framing untouched.
Should carousel slides be 4:5 or 3:4?
3:4 (1080 x 1440) is the tallest shape Instagram keeps and matches the profile grid, so slide 1 is not trimmed there. 4:5 (1080 x 1350) is the long-standing standard and needs slightly fewer slides for the same panorama.
Can I post a panorama as one photo?
Yes, but Instagram crops any photo wider than 1.91:1 (1080 x 566 px) to fit, so a long panorama loses both ends. Split into slides, it keeps its full width and height.
What if my panorama is too short for the slides I want?
Choose Extend to fit. Texture fill adds the missing strip from your photo's own textures, on your device, so you keep the slide count without cropping the top and bottom.
